Thoracic Surgeon is a surgeon that has been trained and specialises in performing surgery of the lungs, heart, chest and oesophagus. Medical Oncologist is a physician who is a trained specialist in the field of treatment for cancer through chemotherapy. There are a variety of different types of oncologists, all of whom specialise in the treatment of cancer. Radiation Oncologist is another type of oncologist, who is also an expert in the field of treating cancer, but this time through radiation therapy. Radiologist is a physician who is an expert in the field of using imagines equipment (such as scans, x-rays, and ultrasound) in order to diagnose cancer diseases and problems. Pathologist is a physician who is trained to monitor and evaluate cell changes which can indicate the presence of disease. Pathologists do this through examination of bodily fluids and excretions, such as sputum, blood, urine, stools, etc. Although they're not a medical member of the team, a social worker is there to provide invaluable support and resources to patients at a time when they need as much assistance and advice as possible.
Respiratory Therapist is a trained medical worker who specialises in evaluating, treating and monitoring patients who have had or are still having breathing problems. Because the various types of mesothelioma cancer affect different parts of the body, you may find that you are dealt with by a handful of the cancer care team or by every member at some point. This largely depends on the type of cancer disease and the location and extent of the cancer.
